Passion Fruit

Passion fruit, native to southern Brazil, is a tropical fruit that has a tight outer rind and juicy, seed-filled center. They are various in sizes and colors: Passiflora edulis are small round or oval-shaped fruits with purple skin, but Passiflora flavicarpa are round or oval-shaped with yellow skin and slightly larger than the purple variety. Passion fruits have the highest polyphenols compared to other tropical fruits. They also are rich in vitamin C and A. They can be eaten fresh, but more popularly used for toppings, sauces, smoothies, and baking.
