The grapefruit (Citrus × paradisi) is a subtropical citrus tree known for its sour to semi-sweet somewhat bitter fruit. Grapefruits vary in hue from white or yellow to pink and red and can range in taste from very acidic and even bitter to sweet and sugary. They have edible pith which is white flesh after the skin is peeled. They are rich in vitamin C, beta-carotene, lycopene, and flavonones. They can be eaten fresh as a snack, or in juice, on salad, smoothies, and desserts.
