The blood orange (Citrus × sinensis) or red orange is a variety of orange Blood oranges. They have reddish orange outer peel and red color (blood color) flesh. The distinctive dark red flesh color is from anthocyanins , a family of antioxidant pigments common to many blackberries and blueberries, but uncommon in citrus fruit. Not only anthocyanins, they also contain polyphenol, folic acid, calcium and high concentration of vitamin C. Their arils are eaten fresh or juices making, salad topping, sorbet and many other dessert dishes.
